1993 Ford Mustang Cobra Turbo Completion in V8 Speed & Resto Shop

This 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra is a very cool project that was started by the car’s owner and has evolved over the years.

When the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, it had been subjected to several performance upgrade projects already, but none of them had been fully completed and “sorted out”. The owner is a busy guy, and he was able to handle some of the big steps, but as they say, the last 5% of the work takes 50% of the time, so he hired our team to finish those tasks and perhaps perform some additional ones as well.

This car has been evolving over the years to a point where the customer just didn’t have the time to finish the last steps of his turbo install. Although it is dirty from being stored, the car is a very clean example of a ‘93 Cobra, which was a limited edition Mustang GT with some suspension, brake, and wheel upgrades over the regular GT.

The rear wing and tail lights are also specific to the Cobra, although the tail light lenses are similar to the ones on the earlier Ford Mustang SVO cars of the mid 1980s.



This one has a Cervini’s hood with custom airbrush graphics, and similar themed skull graphics on the valve covers mounted to the 347 cubic inch stroker Ford 5.0 style V8 engine.







The car arrived wearing an “eBay” turbo kit, featuring a 45mm Turbonetics turbocharger and pre-made tubing. One of the tasks was to install the intercooler in the stock bumper cover, which is another Cobra-specific item.

One neat element on this car is the 5-lug 17 inch Cobra wheels. An aftermarket wheel, but looks stock, just a bit bigger and with a 5 lug pattern. Cool.



The crew began to size-up the nose fitment considering how it had to hold the intercooler and air intakes. Hmm.





Modify this bracket and you gain a few inches for the charge tubing…

Test fit with the bumper cover and lights, and you really can’t tell much has been changed! Good!
